Grace Christian Church ORTIGAS Coming SOON

I may have mentioned in a previous post that Grace Christian Church will be building a branch in the Ortigas area. So the church to physically have an office there may not be so soon, but it doesn't mean we can't have a service there. So coming this September 6 (Sunday) at 6 in the evening, we have our first service in Crowne Plaze Hotel - Ortigas (Sapphire room). Well, you can just get the details from the poster above. I hope to see a lot of new faces there. This is our opportunity to invite our friends who don't usually attend church, as we talk about a new series of our home in Glory --- "HEAVEN".

Levi Fellowship

So today was the start of the Levi Fellowship. So what is that? It's a fellowship for fulltimer's. Fulltimer's are those who are considering to serve God in a capacity of a pastor, missionary, Bible teacher, or counsellor. You get what I mean... The goal here is ...
  1. to educate the members in understanding more of their desire to serve God and to give guidance in confirming if they are called or not;
  2. to train each member more deeply in spiritual doctrines and evangelism;
  3. to give an understanding or exposure of a minister's life.
It an open invitation for everyone, whether you have the desire or not, you are still invited. You can just go there to learn.

Fellowship starts every 4th Sunday of the month, I repeat, Fourth Sunday @ 12 noon to 2:30PM. Please try to confirm earlier on the week if you will be attending, because lunch is provided. Just call 3641415 tell them that and leave your name.

(By the way, it is named Levi, in honor of the priestly tribe in Israel called Levi. You could say, that they were very tight with God in the Old Testament. The picture above shows how four Levites were carrying the Ark of the Covenant of God. As for the Ark, it's another topic of discussion.)

A New Goal

Our dear pastor, Rev. Stephen Tan made some interesting announcements last week. One was to continue our building fund and to raise five million pesos (P5 M). I can't quite remember clearly what it will used for, but I believe it is for the GMTC (Grace Ministry Training Center), since it has become old quite early.

Second announcement is the goal for an extension branch. No, not a student center or anything; but another church branch. Aiming at our church members and lost brothers who live a little farther. Our church is aiming to build another Grace Christian Church in the Ortigas area. Of course, this would a little further from now, and probably not on 2010; but we could all start praying now. Yes, it is a new goal, a difficult goal; but nothing is difficult to our God.

Supersize Me: Maximizing My Relationship with God

On May 13 the youth of Grace Christian Church boarded on a bus at 6AM and took the long drive to the Graceland Estates and Country Club in Tayabas, Quezon. Over four days the group consisting of high school and college students learned about how to be potent, instead of potentials.
The students learned that the maximized life looks from God's perspective, leads to true success, is when Christ is seen in our lives, comes with great responsibilities, brings blessings to others, and is a life of integrity. And over the course of their stay they learned about how they should search for friends who are wise and not fools, as Proverbs 27:17 states, "As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another."

But the summer camp was all about sitting in un-airconditioned halls. The students had the afternoons off to do whatever the estate had to offer, including boating/fishing, swimming, horse back riding, etc. On the second day, the group even overcame the rain and took a boat to cove with clean sands and a small cave to explore. And despite the rains, everyone arrived back at the camp site safely.
Two students accepted Jesus into their lives as their Lord and Savior. Over ninety committed to living a maximized life, and other even committed to serving God full time. At our last meeting, we were told to be flames for God, to have a burning passion for His cause and to be a light unto the world. On May 16, the students were ushered home with "FLAME ON!"

A Little Encouragement

In times like this that we hear a lot of Chrisitans or former Christian leaders that fail in their testimony, abandon their faith, or live a life of sin. It might be that some of them were never saved to begin with.. but still, there are times that we need to be reminded that God is POWERFUL. And He uses the MOST unlikely individual to spread His love. Just like Shelly Lubben. I hope you all enjoy watching this...

What Kind of Animal Is Your Personality?

So last Friday, Young Pro Fellowship's activity was a personality test. It is a simple personality test written by Gary Smalley and John Trent. Before I explain it, click THIS to open the test, click File Menu of the opened Spread Sheet and click Export -> XLS to download the who thing and take the test. hehe...

Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

ZZZZZZZZZZZZZzzz.....................

Are you done???

Now let's begin.

There are four personality types or animals in this test: Lion, Otter, Golden Retriever, and Beaver. In the same order are the columns in the exam.

A simple explanation is:
Lions are Leaders
Otters are the Friendlies
Golden Retrievers are the Caring ones
Beavers are the Diligent Ones

Each character has its own set of strengths and weaknesses. But don't get me wrong, you don't necessarily have all of the mentioned strength or weakness. The psych evaluation only gives you an idea of where your tendencies are. One can also be in multiple categories. If you're a lion then an otter. It just means you are a leader first, before you are a motivator. It's just a matter of letting one see what is a person's biggest potential and possible areas of improvement. Remember, having those weaknesses don't give you an excuse to stay weak in those areas. Knowing your weakness makes you more responsible in taking the initiative to improve on them. While knowing your strengths shows which areas in ministry and work you can shine in. Maximize your God given strengths. Comprende?!?! It can also be helpful in understanding other individuals. Why they are like that, and on what areas you can help them improve.

Strength Weakness
Lion visionary cold

practical domineering

productive unemotional

Strong-willed Self-sufficient

independent unforgiving

decisive sarcastic

leader cruel

Strength Weakness
Otter outgoing undisciplined

responsive unproductive

warm exaggerates

friendly egocentric

talkative unstable

enthusiastic

compassionate

Strength Weakness
Golden Retriever Calm selfish

Easy-Going stingy

dependable procrastinator

quiet unmotivated

objective indecisive

diplomatic fearful

humorous worrier

Strength Weakness
Beaver analytical moody

Self-disciplined Self-centered

industrious touchy

organized negative

aesthetic unsociable

sacrificing critical

revengeful

So what kind of animal are you?

Family Summer Conference 09 - Ilocos Pix

So today, they released the compiled pictures of the Ilocos Summer Conference. It's not perfect, and the test shots were not filtered out. I tried to fix some of them; I hope I didn't turn a good shot into a bad one.heheh.. Also, if you're wondering why some pictures appear all over the place, it just means that multiple photographers took that same picture. You can also wonder why some photographers take multiple pictures of just one person. :D Anyway here are some of the pictures that I've uploaded, enjoy!!!

Summer Con Ilocos - The Return

OK, so we've returned last Saturday. Around 140 of us. We arrived at 5:30AM. It was really earlier. I only had 30 minutes of sleep the whole night. Worst of all, I didn't sleep much the other night as well. BUT, it was still enjoyable,  I was able to catch up with old friends and meet new friends as well. Anyway, I hope I can get the pictures soon, so that I can post them all here. So how was your Holy Week vacation?

Fort Ilocandia Resort Here We Come

So pack your bags, and be ready to meet tomorrow 8:00PM at GCC for our trip to Ilocos. Anyway, don't forget to bring your Bible, personal water for the bus, medication (especially for motion sickness), a little bit of cash, shades, sweater/jacket (it could be cold if you get the chance to ride the hot air balloon),  toiletries (tooth paste and brush, etc.) [The hotel will probably provide most of it, but it wont hurt if your bag has some space], camera if you have one, plastic bags to put your dirty laundry, clothing, socks, undees, slippers, junk food, games to play on the bus... Well, you all know what you need.

Just be at Grace by 8:00PM tomorrow (April  7). If possible, take a little nap in the afternoon. I know it's hard to sleep on the bus. So it might help to get your sleep in advance. God bless. See you all.

MV Doulos

What was supposed to be a short trip to the MV Doulos Bookstore turned into a five hour tour of the ship. It was a warm, sunny day when a few church members visited the Doulos to purchase a few books. And to our utter amazement, the line was looooong. Reminder to those who will visiting the (new) Doulos in two years, don't visit the bookstore on a Sunday.

Fortunately, we had visited the Doulos a week earlier and became acquainted with a few crew members. So instead of lining up in the bookstore line, we went to the back of the ship and received a tour of the whole ship.

Our tour guide, Mrs. Ilona Csernus, began with sharing the short history of the Doulos and the Logos. We ventured into the small corridors of the ship, visiting the laundry area, the fire station, the engine, room, the dining area, and eventually found our way into the Csernus living quarters in the lower levels of the ship.

Learning about the Doulos and its mission has been an eye opening experience to not only life on a ship, but also the importance and hard work involved in the missions ministry. Crew members don't stay on the ship during the entire duration of their 2 year stay on the ship, but go out to parks and prisons to tell people about the gospel.

Look forward to seeing the new Doulos in 2 years.

That's not the Doulos. That's the Melville, the shipped parked behind the Doulos. But it makes for a great picture.

The line went all the way down the pier, and zig zagged like a scribble at the end of the picture. It was insane -- sooo many people.

Eleanor poses at the fire station.

The main entrance to the bookstore.

Welcome home who-ever-you-are. (Anna with an H.)

That guy's the Bouncer. He's from the Netherlands and he makes funny faces. And he's 18.

TAIWAN! TAIWAN!!! TAIWAN!!!!

The Engine Room.

This guy looks like Samuel Tan, Rev. Stephen's brother. Ya think?

The gang minus Spencer. Left to right: Lawrence, Ellie, Jina, Cat, Ilona, Benjamin, and Daniel. We rock.

They've got a trampoline in their cabin!

From the outside -- without the long line of people.

Good bye Doulos. See you again in two years.

Joshua

I've posted about Joshua last December. I just received the sad news that he went to be with our Lord. It was this morning (3/17/2009, not sure which hospital).

I know he struggled hard. He fought and trusted God. We prayed for him, for his family; even though some of us never met him; because he is our brother in Christ. We may not need to pray for Joshua anymore for we know where he is, in heaven. However, we do need to pray for his family, friends, and love ones. Those whom he left here on earth. Let them be comforted by God's promise that they will meet Joshua again at the appointed time.

I leave you with this verse, of comfort. To remind us that the place where he is... is a wonderful place.

Revelations 21:4
"And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away."

The Summer Con 09' Quest for Funds

So we've already talked about the garage sale for our summer conference. As a continuation for that. Last last Sunday, our church sold shabu-shabu; and today they sold some siomai. It was a fun fund raising event. Even if it's just a little, a few thousand pesos was raised.

And a new development is... if you want to join and don't have enough money, just look for Enoch hia (5'10" with a big smile) and ask for some raffle booklets. A mountain bike, Nautica Cologne for Men, Samsonite Camera Bag, Samsonite Neck Rest, and a Hi-Lock Glassware set will be given away. Draw date will be on March 29 @ 12noon. Each ticket is only P30... and if you sell an amount more than P1500, the amount you sold will be deducted to your summer conference fare. (I'm not so sure about the mechanics though, I'll clarify this in a few days). So start selling now and join our summer conference in Ilocos. God bless you all.

Nothing Much, Just Reading... Harold Sala's Winning Your Inner Struggles

Two of the things I did with in the last seven days: 1) Finish reading Winning Your Inner Struggles, 2) Watched Street Fighter: Legend Of Chun Li. OK, so I don't recommend #2. My expectation was really low, around 3 out of 10 (10 being the highest); but it was way lower than that. I did get a good laugh about the experience though.

Anyway, we all know that Harold and Darlene Sala are in the country for a month now. I attended one of their seminars on singleness in CBCP (Christian Bible Church of the Philippines) a few weeks ago. During that time, I bought a book (Winning Your Inner Struggles) with the thought that this might help me with some of my struggles with regards to temptations. But, it wasn't what I expected; it was better. It tackles almost every part of our self.... fear, emotion, anger, burn out, disappointments, worries, stress, etc. I've learned a lot that I've been praying to God to help me apply.

One of the things I picked up is the line "you can let your emotions control your mind, or let your mind control your emotions." (This isn't the exact line, but it's more or less the same). If you're sad, depressed, emotional, tired - you'll really feel it once you let those feelings take over your mind and convince you. But we can do it the other way around... If you think you're happy, you will eventually be happy. Just let your mind do the controlling; don't let your emotions dictate how good or bad your day will be.

Also, as I was reading, some people came to my mind whom I wanted to recommend the book to. Friends of mine whom, I believe, can also learn from it. The further I read, more friends I thought of. So I was at a point where I thought this book could help all of us. The good thing about it is that Dr. Sala goes back to the Bible as one of his main reference which is very important. Before we apply what we read, we should always make sure that the author is not making up what he writes. So I recommend buying this book. Hey, it's P170. It's light and easy to read.

Results: Garage Sale For Summer Con

I'm not too keen on the details regarding the garage sale yesterday, since I wasn't there. But I heard that they were able to make p30,000. That's a pretty good amount, and only happened through God's grace. The money raised will be used to subsidize the summer con amount for those who can't really afford the full p8000. I think priority will be given to students.

Anyway, up next is tomorrow (this Sunday). There will be a food booth that will sell, uhm...Shabu shabu., I think.hehe... Anyway, it's gonna be delicious, so don't forget to bring your wallets. Here's your chance to help out once again. Who said you can't help others by eating? God bless all of you.

Garage Sale For Summer Con

"First of all, sorry folks for not being able to blog this past couple of weeks. I've been having a dry spell lately. Anyway, I'm back, and I'm no longer dry. Thank God."

In the spirit of raising money for our Family Conference in Ilocos, we will be having a Garage Sale this Friday (Feb 27, 2009). It will be a whole day event starting @ 9am in our church (Grace Christian Church). If you have anything worth selling that you probably don't need, here's your chance to get rid of it. You will be helping our church also. It's killing two birds with one stone. Just just pass by the church any reasonable time tomorrow to drop your stuff.

And... if you're wondering whether our church has a garage or not... you are not alone, I'm still wondering about it myself. Anyway, it will probably in the fellowship hall or just the open area where they park all the vans. So drop by this Friday and check out the all the stuff that's for sale.

Or if you have nothing to do... you can also volunteer to help out, just text Glenn 09228425075. (And don't forget to state who you are.)

2009 DVBS - Son Rock

GCC's 2009 Daily Vacation Bible School will be entitled Son Rock. The theme concentrates on how our kids can build their lives upon Jesus Christ, the ROCK. It will be held on April 21 to 27. Like each year, there will be something special planned for the kids. There would be a limit of 90 slots for kids going to Kinder 2 to Grade 6/HS. There would be exceptions for 3 years old and below, but only for a limited 20. For p700 each, this is a bargain. So register now, until April 11, while slots last.

You may register at the church office, or inquire at the DVBS booth every Sunday (there should be one soon). You can also call 3641415 / 3641977 for more inquiries. You may also visit Gospel Light's official Son Rock website for more details on the materials and lessons.

Let us help our kids be wise by building their lives on Jesus. Just like the song...
The Wise man builds his house upon the Rock!!!

Supersize Me

Summer is the time to breakaway from school and all the responsibilities that are tangled up with it. It's the one time in the year where you can glaze your eyes on the television set or the computer without being yelled at for ignoring your homework. But we still get badgered about not spending our time as wisely. So this year, Grace Christian Church is sponsoring a Summer Youth Camp charged with activities, messages, and a week with your friends!

Last year, Grace's Summer Camp (Unmasked!) was held at the Asian Theological Seminary in Baguio. The theme revolved around our personal identity under who we are in God. A video message was played zeroing on the spiritual warfare that is continually going on around us. Personally, these messages helped me get a better grasp of who I am and the world that revolves around me. I needn't be ashamed of who I am in Christ, nor should I fear the things of this world. With this in mind, I look forward to the things I'll learn this coming summer at the Youth Camp.

The Grace Summer Youth Camp will be held at the Graceland Estates and Country Club in Tayabas, Quezon, during May 13-16. Early registration is advised, starting at P2,800 till Feb. 28; P3,300 from March 1 to May 3. There are limited slots, so apply now!

Joshua Back in School!!!

So last Sunday, I was able to talk to Reuben hia (Joshua's Dad). Not only is Joshua back in Junior Church, but he's also back to school (SSHS) until lunch time. It's a really great news.

So MRI results showed that his tumor, on January 3, 2009, had a dimension of  4.2 * 5.7 * 3.5. Compared to the results last September 7, 2008 of 5.7 * 7 * 4.8, this seems to be more or less 40% of what it used to be. Though, I really don't know how it is computed; his dad said that it only shrunk a little. Anyway, a little can go along way.

God is really amazing. Let us always remember to thank him and to "pray unceasingly" 1 Thessalonians 5:17

As for the theme and whatever we are going to do there.. I'll post them later on after I get the details.

Building Bridges to Reach the Non-Christians

This entry is targeted for Believers, feel free to read.

Last Friday, January 9 at Grace Christian Church, Ptr. Jeanette Yu was invited to speak about the theme "What Can I Do For You Lord?" She talked about reaching out to non-Christians and spreading the Gospel to them. It was time for soul harvesting! She challenged everyone to spread the Gospel in our own families. It's a small step that can have a big impact! We love our families right? So we ought to share to them the truth! For those who fear rejection, Ptr. Jeanette said that being ridiculed is but a small sacrifice. What if the person dies and you know that he has not accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior? Then it's a big burden that you'll have to carry. There will be a lot of "What IFs" on your part and maybe regrets. After all, it is not us who will convince them to accept Christ; it is the Holy Spirit's work. We are just instruments of God who will convey the message for Him. So before we do, we must pray to God for wisdom and strength to be able to say the right words.

I, for one, have a big fear of rejection and fear of not being able to answer their questions. I feel inadequate and fear that I don't have the right amount of wisdom to share the Gospel. SO what needs to be done? Then study God's word. Read the Bible everyday and meditate on it. Memorize the verses. In that way, we'll be able to prepare ourselves. If we love God, we'll give time to Him. We love spending a lot of time with people we love, so why not spend time with God Who created us?

There was this article in A Beka book Bible Doctrines For Today that I have read. It has a great impact on me and convicted me that in ancient times, people were on fire for God. They spread the Gospel even if it meant risking their lives. Nowadays, people are free to spread the Gospel in most places, but still we don't share the Gospel because we fear rejection. What an irony that people were more passionate in sharing the Gospel when their lives are in danger that people who can freely evangelize but chooses not to because of fear of ridicule or rejection. Think about the souls you can save and the joy of the angels and God Himself when one soul accepts Christ. One can have a lot of impact. That "one" can change a lot of lives and influence a lot of people. In the parable, The Lost Sheep and The Lost Coin, people were looking for that lost sheep/coin even if they have 99 of them already. Just like in the souls of the people, even if 99 were saved already, God will rejoice for that 1 mere soul who was lost and is now found!

So I encourage you to pray to God to give you strength, wisdom and courage to reach out to people. One person can make a difference and that's you! Go out and make disciples of all nations! Let us fulfill the Great Commission.

Here's the outline of Ptr. Jeannette Yu's Building Bridges to Reach the Non-Christians:

- they are lost without Christ and will end up in hell.
- overcome your fear of rejection or ridicule.

Ye Cannot Serve Both God and Piracy (just a guide)

Before you start reading. I'm just going to warn you.... 1) this is very long. 2) this might be offensive to some.

According to Matthew 6:24 (and Luke 16:13), "No one can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and Money."

So the question is... is it OK to buy pirated CDs and DVDs?

Ahem.... well, the answer to it is, of course, NO-NO-NO-NO- and...... NO!!!

Yes it seems innocent, but this is one of the most common sins we commit. Yes, we, including me, most likely commit or have committed this. There was at least one moment in your life that you've consciously or unconsciously pirated something. Perhaps copying a cassette tape to another... or burning a CD of a song you borrowed... buying the fake software that you really need in school... perhaps making a photocopy of a text book in school or a score of song..or even just downloading.. and many other mediocre stuff that seemed innocent when we did it.

First of all, if you have never bought any genuine software, game, CD, or DVD in your life....I don't blame you. I understand it if you say you'll just buy from Tutuban. I myself, don't have the capacity to buy every original software that I need.

Well... according to the Bible, "Thou shalt not steal". There's no argument there. So, is software piracy stealing? You'll probably say "the ones who sell them are the ones stealing them." We're creative beings, so we can always come up with a good excuse. But isn't buying pirated [or, if you don't mind me saying, stolen] goods just the same? Besides, piracy is derived from sea pirates. It literally mean "robbery at sea".

Let me introduce you to the so called LICENSE. Yes, each software, CD, and DVD is a copyright protected item. It means, they are not free. Just because you have a DVD writer does not give you the liberty to copy any given software. Even the NERO you're using is probably pirated.

Anyway, every time we buy a genuine CD or DVD or software or digital downloads, there's a so-called license agreement. Most of us don't read the conditions of the license, and it's perfectly normal not to. I haven't met a single person who reads those. So I'll give you some samples of what's written in it...
  1. You cannot lend it your friend who is just going to copy it.
  2. You cannot install it to every one of your computers. Just one, unless it is a multi-user license.
  3. You cannot download it, unless purchased from an official website.

Basically, no copying, no selling, no buying pirated, no downloading. You know what I mean....

It's practically normal for us to use pirated copies. Our downloaded and copied mp3s, the Windows in our PC, the movies that we are watching. Everyone, most probably, has a pirated copy of something. Being in a third world country makes it difficult. We are already struggling with food, gas, and rent....why bother complicate things further by buying genuine merchandise? Why not just go with the flow?...everybody does it. [We'll answer these questions later.]

To give you a good idea on how much an average person has pirated... this is a sample:

Each song in your IPOD is around P30 (FlipTunes). Multiply that by the number of songs that you have in your IPOD, which is give or take around 500 to 4000 songs... So it's around P15,000 to P120,000. Wow! that's alot of money.

The Windows XP or Vista that you're using... For the laptops, it's probably a licensed copy, so don't worry. However, the desktops..at least 90% of the time, NO. That's a price range of P2,000 to P8,000 depending on the kind of Windows that you use.

Genuine movies cost around, P150 to P1000, depending on the quality and age of the release. The older, the cheaper. If the movie just came out and you're cheap, you'll probably download or buy them in your friendly neighborhood pirated store. Each movie ticket costs at least P120, which is twice the cost of pirated DVD. So count all the movies that you've watched with your pirated DVDs, and multiply it by P120. My guess is, you have around 10 to 30 DVDs stashed in your home.

The Microsoft Office that you use in your office and house. That's at least P4500, EACH.

All the PS2 and XBOX360 games that are in that big CD bag of yours... It costs an average of P1500 each... My guess is, if you have a console, you'll have at least 20 games.

All in all, an average guy has pirated more or less a minimum of P25,000... and that's excluding all the past piracy's. For every generation software that you've used.. For every upgrade that you've used... you have to pay for them separately. It's not a one time payment deal, unless specified.

Anyway, we are a poor country..blah blah blah.. I know... So here are some tips that can help alleviate this predicament.
  1. Music. Each song is around P30. You'll usually play a good song for days, or even weeks. So a weekly expense of P30 for a new song isn't a bad deal.
  2. Music. If you're still too cheap, sell your IPOD and get portable radio. If the song is good, I'm sure they'll play it. You can even be more entertained, a lot of DJs are entertaining.
  3. Windows. Well, we use our windows for around 3 to 5 years before we upgrade it to the newer version. Windows XP came out on Oct 2001 and started to be common at the start of 2002, and is still widely used today. It  has been commonly used for more than 6 years. That's 72 months. If you do the math, you'll just need to set aside, P28 to P111 a month, not a week, only a month. Start saving now before the next Windows comes out
  4. Windows. An alternative to Windows is to use Linux. It's free, and it's not as hard to use as most people tend to think. It's a lot faster too. Although, you'll get some disadvantages... But FREE is FREE, and the advantages out weights the small discomforts. All of its software's are free. It's a lot faster, especially when surfing. You won't have worry about your parents trying hack into your computer, cause they probably wouldn't know how to use it. You'll look smarter too.
  5. Movies. if you can wait for the movie to come out on DVD, it always depreciates over time. You can gather all your friends and each person chips in the P50 you'll be using to buy the DVD. Just gather 9 friends plus yourself... You can buy an original copy. And you get to keep a copy to watch over and over again.
  6. Movies. Or just watch at the movie theater. A good movie is always best seen in the big screen.
  7. Movies. Rent it!!!
  8. Movies. And for the ultimate cheap skate, wait for it to come out on Studio 23 or HBO.
  9. Microsoft Office. Just download Open Office it's a rip off version of Microsoft Office. It doesn't have the same features, but it's free. And it has all the essentials that we need. It is also a good practice of our grammar skills (less effective grammar check). It's just like the time when everybody is so used to using Nokia that Sony Ericson just won't sell. It's a matter of what we are used to using.
  10. Other software's. If you use Linux, there's no other problem with that. Every software available is free. For Windows users, each kind of software usually has a free software alternative, especially essentials like anti-virus software's. So don't worry, you can have a pirated free computer. And if you really need to purchase something, just save up for it. If you can buy a desktop, it means you have money. Besides, if you take a look at your computer and all the programs that you have, you don't really use most of them. Some of them are just there cause you MIGHT use them. To prove it, how many of you have Microsoft Access?!?! and how many of you can honestly tell me you know how to do a query?
  11. Games. For many, like myself.. this is very important. If we get tired or finish a game, we move on to the next. Some people finish a certain game in a day or two. This is going to be tricky. First of all, don't buy any console if you're too cheap to buy the original games. Each game costs from P1000 to P3000, usually around P2000. Well, you can just stop playing in computer shops.. It will save you around P50 a day. That's more or less P1000 a month.
  12. Games. Oops..still not enough. Well, you can get second hand games for that amount. And, if you're not wasting 2 hours a day on playing in computer shops...it means you have an extra 2 hours to study or to get a part time job. If you study harder, mommy might give you a little extra bonus allowance so that you can buy your games.
  13. Games. For those of you workers out there, just set aside p100 a day, you'll get an average of one game a month.
  14. Games. Another way is to have a lot of friends who like the same kind of games as you do. For example, you all have an Xbox360... Each of should buy a different title once every month or two. If there are five of you in your group, that's already five games to play with in two months...and that is enough. If that's not enough, you're probably failing a few classes. Parents!!! do you agree??? So don't allow your kids to talk you into making your Wii or Xbox modded to play fake games.
  15. Wait for SALEs. Like any other product, clearance/warehouse sales would always occur from time to time. Just wait for them.
  16. Get from abroad. Some times it is cheaper to just buy from abroad (should be with in Asian region). I would always hear of people's friends and family going abroad. A software there could be a lot cheaper. So just search the internet and see if you can save up by asking them to buy on your behalf.
It may be hard to follow all these, but let's take it one step at a time. I may be blogging this, but I'm also one of those who are struggling here. So let's help each other out. Let us pray and encourage one another. Helping each other over come our struggles.

Anyway, for the rich guys out there, just buy the original...  Your money is worthless if you can't use it for good.

What about me? I currently have around 300 downloaded MP3s left, after deleting over 2000 of it. After deleting some, I have 64 PSP games left. Pirated Windows, at least four pirated software's, not including the ones I haven't installed.

Here's my own personal plan. Find the original CD, and pay for it, or pay the mp3 online at least one song a week. Set aside enough money every month to pay for the next generation Windows 7 coming out July of this year. And the hard part.. delete all the PSP games that I'm not playing [I'm still narrowing it down]. Find second hand PSP games over the net, starting with the ones I like best, some of them just cost p500. It's at least half cheaper than the retail price. Any additional games that I play on the computer, I try to buy the original. In fact, I just spent a little over p4000 to buy a certain title for the PC and a PSP game that I've already played. For the software's, I'll buy the licenses of those software's in a span of a year or two [I'll probably get the latest at the moment I buy them], or just delete them if I don't really use them. My first priority aside from video games is to save up to buy my own copy of Windows 7, hopefully by the end of the year. All else can come after.

To answer the question earlier, why bother doing this?...  a lot of non-Christians out there know that piracy is illegal, and they say that we Christians are just as bad as them. How much is a few thousand peso savings compared to the Salvation of another? Do we really want to face God some day and tell him.. "I just wanted save a little money." Money that has no worth in eternity. We are to be blameless in all aspects of our lives, just like Daniel and Paul.

Philippians 2:14-16
"Do everything without complaining or arguing, so that you may become blameless and pure, children of God without fault in a crooked and depraved generation, in which you shine like stars in the universe as you hold out the word of life - in order that I may boast on the day of Christ that I did not run or labor for nothing."

Another thing is.. if we keep on pirating, a lot of companies will close down due to bankruptcy...It means, the song or game or movie that they specialize that we love could go bye-bye. And the workers there, who also have families to feed, will lose their jobs. Do we really want to be accountable for their loss?

If you really need it and don't have the money... Hey, God provides our needs, remember? Just pray!!!

By the way, those of you who download from torrents, limewires, and other peer-to-peers... you're not off the hook. You're just as guilty as any buyer or seller of pirated goodies.

I challenge each and everyone of us... Let us try to amend our ways, and build a better testimony for others to see.

Monday Basketball Fellowship

If any of you have noticed in the Sunday bulletin, there is a portion that lists all the Bible Study groups. One of them is listed on "Monday Men's Group - 7:30pm GCHS GYM". It's about time they change that, because
1) the Gym already burnt down, and
2) the group has moved to PACE Academy.

So what does this group do? Obviously, basketball!!! But it isn't an ordinary basketball group. Before every game, there would be a short prayer and devotion.

The group aims to reach out to both Christians and non-Christians through the use of basketball. And why use basketball? Because guys love to play basketball. It is an opportunity to get to know one another through basketball. Encouraging and helping each other become better Christians. And possibly evangelizing new comers who have never heard of Christ.

If you are interested to join or help out, please subscribe to our yahoogroups for details.
FYI, this group has been around for more than two years. It used to be held at Bellevue, then GCHS gym, and now at Pace. God Bless!!!
